IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Constance Alice
Laura Fern Kent (Nee Moulding)
February 21, 1919 – November 19, 2023
Constance Alice Laura Fern Kent "Connie" will be forever loved by her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. She passed away at the age of 104, three months shy of her 105th birthday. Connie will be remembered with fondness by her friends from her personal life and especially friends, staff and care givers from Trafalgar Lodge Retirement Home (Oakville, Ontario). It was often mentioned "when Connie was made, the mold was broken". She was a person who showed kindness and grace to all she knew.
Connie was born in Waterford, Ontario on February 21, 1919 to parents Edith Mary and John Moulding. She was the youngest of the three children. As a teen, her family moved to Hagersville, Ontario where she attended high school and later Nursing School at the Brantford Hospital. Connie had a beautiful singing voice. She often performed at musical functions in the Hamilton, Brantford, Simcoe and Port Dover areas.
In the latter part of the 1930's, Connie met her future husband, Harold Frances Kent from Halifax. He was Plant Manager at the Gypsum Company in Hagersville. They were married in 1939. The newlyweds were transferred to Weston, Ontario where they welcomed a daughter Janet Francis Kent.
During the first part of World War II, the family moved to Halifax where Connie became a young Navel Officer's wife. During this time, Connie showed a passion for Figure Skating and often performed in local Figure Skating events. Towards the end of the War, the family welcomed a daughter Carole Elizabeth Kent.
After the War, the young family was transferred to Hillsborough, New Brunswick as Connie's husband became the new Plant Manager for the Gypsum Company in the area. She showed a passion of helping the community and always on call for the role of "Hostess" as a Plant Manager's wife. The family welcomed the arrival of a daughter Patricia Constance Kent. During this time a heart breaking tragedy struck the family, Janet Kent became ill and died in 1951.
Following this sad loss, the family was transferred to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. A son Robert William Kent was born. Soon, the family was transferred to New York, New York and then to Chicago, Illinois. Connie continued to be the "Woman behind the man" supporting her husband now as an Executive at Head Office for the same Gypsum Company. She was very interested in community volunteering, a Girl Scout leader, a member of the school Parent Teachers Association and very interested in politics.
The Kent Family remained in Chicago until 1965 when Connie's husband was promoted to a Senior Executive of the Canada Gypsum Company. This meant the family was moving to the Toronto, Ontario area. They settled in Oakville, Ontario. Connie loved Oakville. She was passionate about volunteering at the Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital. She soon became Director of Volunteers at the hospital. Connie was called Mom to her children's friends. Mom's kitchen was the after school "hangout" for her children and friends. There were always homemade cookies in the white cookie jar and a chocolate cake on top of the fridge.
Mom passed away on November 19, 2023 at the Coronary Unit (Pod 300) at the Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital in Oakville, Ontario. The staff on the unit were amazing. The Kent and Johnson Family would like to Thank Dr. Robert Gabriel, Dr.Kostas Ioannou and staff for their wonderful care of Mom and the guidance to her family.
