Xenia Caldarevic, born on October 6, 1942, in Niksic, Montenegro, passed away on January 15, 2026, in Oakville, Ontario, at the age of 83. Her departure marks the end of a remarkable life filled with accomplishments, love, and a profound impact on those around her.
Xenia was the cherished daughter of Jovanka and Savo Martinovic. She studied Economics at the University of Zagreb, Faculty of Economics & Business. In the fall of 1976, she enrolled in the University of Toronto, School of Continuing Studies, focusing on Communications and earning a certificate in Canadian Marketing Management. Her dedication to education continued as she completed the Fellows Program at the Institute of Canadian Bankers and was admitted as a Fellow of the Institute on September 24, 1979.
Her career involved many leadership roles in the early 1970s at Toronto-Dominion Bank. She started at the Toronto Data Centre as a control clerk, where she worked for five years before transitioning to the Data Conversion Department. Then she was promoted to the Stats of Finance Department, eventually rising to a leadership role in the Chief Accountant's Department. After retiring from TD Bank, she continued her entrepreneurial pursuits with her husband launching Caldarevic's Marketing Company. She collaborated with various organizations including Foreign Affairs & International Trade Canada, the Embassy of the Republic of Croatia in Ottawa, and the Croatian Chamber of Economy in Zagreb, as well as the Toronto Board of Trade and AmCham Canada.
Xenia is survived by her daughter Mira Mary Smith and son-in-law Michael Francis Smith; her daughter Annie Caldarevic; her grandchildren Taylor Francis Smith (spouse Vilma) and Peter Michael Smith (spouse Liv) and Chelsea Robin Smith (spouse Ryan Columb). She was preceded in death by her beloved husband John Caldarevic. And shared a wonderful 60 years of marriage.
She will be dearly missed, and her light and energy will continue to be an inspiration to us all.
A Private Celebration of Life for Xenia Caldarevic will be held for family and close friends at Kopriva Taylor Community Funeral Home, located at 64 Lakeshore Rd W, Oakville, ON L6K 1E1, on January 30, 2026, at 11:00 am.
In lieu of flowers, we have sponsored a memorial bench in Loving Memory of John and Xenia Caldarevic located in the Westbrook Park Area 297 Chalmers St. Oakville Ontario on the Moccasin Heritage Trail that connects Westbrook and Riverview Park.
