Obituary

Winona Nazareth (1929-2021) was born in Rangoon, Burma. She was a selfless, doting mother to her daughters Linda and Audrey, and big sister to her four brothers. She was a devoted daughter to her mother Magdalene.

She was married to her husband Bert in 1958, who was sadly taken from her too early in 1980. Winona was also a proud older sister, with four brothers, three of whom were priests. Her faith and love for her family were the most important things to her - her grandchildren - Alex, Rhys, Dylan and Maddie were her favourite people in the world, but she enjoyed all the children in the large extended family: her great nieces Heather and Jessica brought her so much joy and more recently her great great nephew Noah. She loved her honorary daughter Ann, and watching Ann's son Kevin grow up.

Winona was never happier than with a baby on her lap... or bragging about her grandchildren. Being together with friends and family, going to dim sum, eating too much dessert, those were her joys.

After years of relocating across the world - from Burma to England to Montreal to Toronto, she said she felt no desire to travel - "every thing I need is here."

Winona passed peacefully at her residence at the Cardinal Ambrozic Houses of Providence on Tuesday.

Due to the pandemic, a small family-only service will be held on Saturday, November 6th, where Winona will be laid to rest with her husband Bert in the St. Jude Cemetery in Oakville. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke Society would be welcomed as an expression of sympathy.
