Obituary

Bill passed away peacefully on March 17, 2014. He will be sadly missed by his wife Judy (nee Sparrow) of 53 years. A loving father to Brian T. (Alexandra Bennett, Olivia, India and Kai) and Janet (Viren Malik, Uma and Ved) and the late Jeffrey. He is survived by his brother John of Sudbury, his sisters Marion (Winnipeg) and Laura Drew (Kenora) and many nieces and nephews. Bill grew up in Kenora, Ontario and attended the University of Manitoba. After teaching for 3 years in Halton he had a successful career in the investment business working with Walwyn, Connor Clark in Toronto and TriDelta in Oakville. His deep intelligence, strong wit and empathetic spirit was admired by those who knew him. Bill held strong values of integrity, honesty and fairness. He loved the finer things in life: early morning tennis matches, high quality golf balls and fine wine. He was a sporting man who loved tennis, golf, hiking, sailing, and biking. His finest memories, besides his wedding, were the trip to The Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs with his daughter and the 18 holes he played at Augusta National. On biking trips in Europe he earned the nickname "Billy Baguette" – always finding a way to have fun and make people around him laugh. He loved the cottage he built on Lake Muskoka where he chopped wood and gathered kindling for the perfect fire. He was a poet and a lover of the 'Sport of Kings' and found great pleasure in a day at Woodbine or Saratoga. He was 'CaveMan Dad' to his children as was more than once seen using a rock instead of a hammer. He demonstrated to his children what it meant to be a kind and gentle person. Bill will be remembered by his friends for his sense of humour, his poetry and his love of singing. With his Irish blood it was fitting that he passed away on Saint Patrick's Day. Last year we celebrated at Fripp Island, South Carolina and he played a wonderful round of golf with his pals. He was a strong supporter of the arts and served as President on the Board of Directors of Oakville Galleries. Donations to Oakville Galleries or a charity of your choice may be made in lieu of flowers. A celebration of his life will take place at a later date.
