Holding his daughters' hands and watching a sunrise bathed in autumn colours, William (Bill) MacKinlay passed away on October 24 after a long and wonderful life. Predeceased by his wife of almost 54 years, Jean, he is survived by his daughters, Leslie (Ken) and Lindsay (David), as well as grandchildren Lauren, Graeme, Courtney, Alex and Jacquie. Dad also leaves extensive family in Canada, Scotland, England and Australia. Bill was born into a loving family, the 7th of 8 children. He joined the Royal Navy and proudly served in the Mediterranean and Pacific campaigns of WW2. Bill and Jean immigrated to Montreal where Dad had a long career in the insurance industry, largely with Hall & Henshaw, with much creativity being put into the US sports insurance arena. He sold his last business in 1986 and Mom and Dad retired to Oakville and Sarasota for what was an idyllic retirement of time with family and friends, much golf at North Halton and The Meadows, no snow, and fun travel. The great tragedy of Dad's life was losing Jean to cancer, but that Scottish spirit moved him forward and he never complained. He took up bridge and the Colborne Senior Centre became a large part of his life. We would like to thank the following: supportive friends over many years, Don, Adam and Dave; close friend, Barb, and the rest of his bridge and snooker groups; and Dr Vince Chien, Danielle, Charlene, Maggie and Mike at Bridgepoint Palliative. Funeral service: Knox Presbyterian Church, 89 Dunn St, Oakville on Friday, November 1 at 11 am. Parking is on Robinson (off Trafalgar) behind church. (Avoid Lakeshore construction) Donations in Dad's memory gratefully accepted: St Michael's Hospital Foundation Cardiac program
