Obituary

Born December 16th, 1933, passed away February 3rd, 2024 at AgeCare Glen Oaks, in Oakville, Ontario.

Jim was born in Stratford, Ontario and after completing his high school diploma he was hired by the Canada Trust Co. in London, Ontario. His first job was filling the inkwells for the employee's fountain pens and eventually moved his way up in the company to various positions over the next 35 years, finishing his career as President of Investments. He got to visit many places including Australia, Denmark, Boston and New York on business trips and was always excited to bring back special keepsakes for his daughters.

While he lived in London, he met his future wife, Bonnie, who also worked at the bank, and they married in 1959 and had two girls, Janis (John) and Susan (David). After a brief transfer to Calgary, Alberta, the family moved to Oakville in 1972 and stayed in the same house, surrounded by wonderful neighbours for the next 50 years.

Jim also had three grandsons that he was very proud of, twins Oliver (Manon) and Nicholas (Emily), and Griffin. He always found time to do fun things with them and loved to talk to them about their futures. When they were small, he hosted his famous Monday night dinners that brought everyone to the table for a three-course gourmet meal that he asked us to rate from 1 to 10 when we were done. He very rarely received a low mark - except for that one unfortunate meatloaf.

Jim had many siblings that included brothers Tom (late), Bob, David and Warren as well as a sister Rose (late).

Our dad loved to watch college football, the Toronto Blue Jays and sometimes even the Toronto Maple Leafs. He had a deep knowledge of the players and the stats on 'who was hot and who was not'. He got to visit spring training one year to watch the boys get ready for the baseball season.

He took his family on amazing trips with highlights being 'Christmas in Barbados' with a tree made of branches with shells for ornaments. He would always ask the pilot if his kids could come up and see the cockpit to add to the experience. He also had many trips with Bonnie's sister Selby and husband Arnie to beach locations and BC.

When his daughter Janis opened her cookie shop on Kerr Street, dad would proudly do the morning deliveries in his brown vest and hat.

When his daughter Susan got into Track & Field, he would always drive to the track meets and make sure that she was in the best lane for the sprints. He loved watching all of the races for the kids from the Oakville Track & Field club.

In no particular order he loved: walking downtown Oakville, black liquorice, slot machines, A&W root beer, the stock market, The Globe & Mail, big band music, making soup for the neighbourhood, watching sports, getting up early, coupons, BBQ chips, Frank Sinatra, playing card games, and the World Series.

The family would like to thank AgeCare Glen Oaks for their wonderful hospice care in our dad's final days as well as PSWs April and Lunie of Healing Hearts. A private interment of ashes will take place in the spring. Donations in his name to Front Line Outreach , a local charity that supports homelessness would be appreciated.
