Obituary

Our beloved soldier has lost his last battle.

In his 99 th year, William James (Jim) Andrew Gibb, much loved Dad of Sue Ann (Doug Brady), Debby Anderson (Grant Fleming), and Jane (Randy Lewis). Proud Grandpa to Holly, Heather, James (Megan), Sean (Meaghan), Megan (Danny) and Adam (Kimberley), Tim, Carly (Ed), Stephanie and Sam. Loved Great-Grandpa to His 'buddies' Noah, Jack, Thomas, Madison, Liam, Connor, Myles, Chloe and Reed.

Jim was pre-deceased by his wife of 68 years, Margaret.  Jim was born in Montreal but was always proud to call Oakville, the place he raised his family, home. He was proud to have been part of Canada's history.  As a teenager he joined the Grenadier Guards, serving as honour guard for the royal family in Canada.  When World War II broke out he joined the Medical Corps, and then transferred to the Royal Canadian Artillery, 2nd Field Regiment, where he served the remainder of the war.  He participated in the Battle of Italy and the Liberation of the Netherlands.  He was honoured many times for his participation in the latter during anniversary celebrations in the Netherlands, including special recognition by Queen Beatrix.  Following the war Jim returned to Montreal where he worked at The Montreal Star and met Margaret.  He also worked at Dominion Stores and then The White Motor Corporation where he moved with the company to Toronto.  The family spent a couple of years in Toronto before finding their forever home in Oakville.  Jim transferred to the job of his dreams at Mack Trucks, where he worked a very fulfilling 13 years as Director, Sales Promotion and Advertising.  He had a second family at Mack and it was a difficult choice to retire from that life.  In retirement he and Margaret enjoyed travelling, especially cruising, with winters in Florida.  He had time to attend every recital and sports event for his grandchildren.  He was a great babysitter!  A celebration of Jim's life will be held on January 13, 2019 at The Oakville Golf Club from 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.  Private family interment to follow in the spring. Jim had a great love of children; a donation to The Lighthouse Program for Grieving Children, Halton Learning Foundation, or to a children's charity of your choice would be a thoughtful remembrance.
