Obituary

Bill passed peacefully on Saturday, December 27, 2014 at Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital with his wife and two sons by his side. Bill had just celebrated his 79th birthday. He leaves behind his loving wife of 47 years, Roxie, son Mark and his wife Sara, son Paul and his wife Naomi, granddaughter Kate, grandson Thomas, his nieces and nephews Glen, Catharine, Diane, Michael and Arlene, extended family, and friends from the sailing community associated with the Mississauga Sailing Club. He was predeceased by his sister Merle (Taylor) Ross. Bill was born in Toronto in 1935 as a part of a long ancestral history in that area. His career was spent with Bell Canada as a part of the team that installed much of the modern telephone infrastructure in the GTA, including installation of telecommunications in the CN Tower during its construction. He was a skilled hockey player in his youth, being recruited to play in the competitive industrial league in Toronto in the early 1950's. He had a passion for downhill skiing, as an instructor, enthusiast and mentor to his two sons, family and friends. His other passion was sailing. He was an active honourary lifetime member of the Mississauga Sailing Club where he could be found sailing, talking with members, guests and regatta competitors, or helping out around the club year round. His helpful spirit, enthusiasm, approachable nature and endless wisdom had an impact on many and will be dearly missed. The family will receive family and friends at Kopriva-Taylor Community Funeral Home, 64 Lakeshore Road West, Oakville for a visitation from 7-9 p.m. on Friday, January 2, 2015 and for a funeral service at 1 p.m. on Saturday, January 3, 2015. Immediately following the service, a lakefront celebration of Bill's life will take place at the Harbour Banquet and Conference Centre, 2340 Ontario Street, Oakville. A private cremation will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations in Bill's memory may be made to the Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital at www.oakvillehospitalfoundation.com.
