Born in Stratford, January 24, 1954 she was in her 61st year. She passed away peacefully in the company of her family on Monday September 22, 2014. Wendy had a kind and gentle spirit with a radiant smile that could light up a room and bring warmth to all who surrounded her. She will be cherished in the memory of her family and friends. Her cheerful disposition and impish nature endeared her to everyone she met. While she will be sadly missed by her family, we trust that she is now at peace and is watching out for us from the heavens above. Wendy endured the challenges and complications of a rare form of dementia (Frontal Temporal Dementia) for almost 10 years. Despite the slow degenerative nature of this disease, she never lost her enthusiastic smile or her interest in people. Prior to the onset of this disease, Wendy had a successful small business in women's fashion apparel. She enjoyed walking and hiking with Brian through the parks and neighbourhoods of Oakville and when travelling abroad. At home she was a creative host for dining events with family and friends. She loved quiet reflection on literature while resting outside in the fairy garden she created. She was physically active and had obtained the level of second degree black belt in Shorin Ryu Karate which she practiced with peers until the early onset of her disease. Wendy is survived by her husband of 40 years Brian, their son David and his wife Megan of Burlington. In addition she leaves behind her mother Katherine (Kay) Sommers of Stratford, brothers Larry and his wife Cathy (Toronto), Jim and his wife Joyce (Ayr), Ken and his wife Bobbie (Woodstock), and her sister Evelyn (Toronto). She was predeceased by her father Wesley Earl Sommers.
The families wish to express gratitude for the tender loving care received by Wendy during her stay at Westoak Long Term Care in Oakville and the staff of Harbour House. She was supported by all members of the staff as if she were a sister. We are very grateful for their loving support of Wendy.
