Obituary

Walter Laube

September 10, 1942 - September 29, 2025

It is with much sadness that the family announces the passing of Walter Laube. After his brief battle with cancer and Lewy Body dementia, Walter passed away in his own home, surrounded by family on the evening of Monday, September 29th, just weeks after celebrating his 83rd birthday. Walter will be forever loved by his wife Nandy, son Tom, daughter-in-law Liz, and cherished granddaughters, Hanna and Isabelle; they will dearly miss their "Opa." He was predeceased by his infant son, Michael.

Walter lived a full, happy life. He was born in Breslau, Germany to Helmut and Eva (Wortmann) Laube. His family resettled to Ratingen, Germany during the war, where he spent his formative years playing soccer with his neighbourhood friends. He met his wife Nandy on a ski trip while working in Switzerland. Their courtship eventually led them to Canada, where they married in Toronto in 1967. They first settled in Oakville, followed by work commitments in Mexico and Brazil through his long and successful career at Holderbank. After returning to Oakville, he still travelled widely throughout the world for business and pleasure.

In retirement, Walter and Nandy enjoyed spending time at their cottage on Lake of Islands. Some of his most cherished memories were made there, canoeing to Treasure Island with his granddaughters Hanna and Isabelle, and spending time with close friends and family. Frequent bike trips taken with Nandy in the Oakville and Niagara areas were also a source of joy for him, as was their time in Hilton Head. Walter proudly served on the Ennisclare board of directors, where he used his engineering expertise to improve all aspects of the facilities. He made many friends during his time on the board.

The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the amazing doctors, nurses and personal care workers who attended to Walter and made his difficult journey more gentle, in particular, they thank Dr. Cinnamon Barone for her care and compassion.

The family invites friends to join the celebration of Walter's life on Sunday, November 16 at 1:00 pm at Kopriva Taylor Community Funeral Home, 64 Lakeshore Road West, Oakville.

In memory of Walter and in lieu of flowers, donations to SickKids Foundation would be greatly appreciated by the family.
