The family of W. Robert (Bob) Langlois sadly announce his passing on July 3, at the age of 90, in Oakville. He is survived by his loving wife Sylvia (nee Halsey), and his children John (Amy Campbell) and Marian (Steven Uszkay), and his grandchildren Campbell (Britt), Jeffrey (Raj), Alexa (Jack), Sean (Maddy), Mark, and Claire. He was predeceased by his parents, W. Lawrence and Isabel Jean, his brother Lawrence, and his beloved son Andrew.
He was born in Toronto, and spent his childhood in Belleville, Ontario. He spent happy summers at Camp Calumet, becoming part of a threesome who remained friends for life.
He graduated from the University of Toronto in 1958 in history. He became a high school teacher, starting his career in Oakville at Blakelock High School. He then earned a Masters of Education and became a vice-principal, spending his career at G. E. Purdue, M.M. Robinson, Oakville Trafalgar, White Oaks Secondary, and Milton District High Schools.
He and Sylvia were married in 1960. They were loving parents to their children, supporting them and celebrating their achievements. Andrew, their middle child, was diagnosed with hydrocephalus which resulted in a very challenging childhood including long hospital stays, acute crises, and chronic disability. With love and support from Bob and Sylvia, Andrew thrived, graduating from college.
Family and friends were very important to Bob. He was close to his parents, spending hours on the phone with his Dad, and loved spending time with his brother Larry and his nephews. He wrote long letters to Sylvia's parents in England, keeping them well-informed of the family news, and looked forward to their visits. He was also very close to his cousin Walter Hogarth, and his family. In addition to his close childhood friends he made great friends at University and throughout his career in education.
Bob was a Rotarian in Oakville for years, and then the Probus Club. He loved the camaraderie and service that involved. He also served as President of the Ontario Myasthenia Gravis Association for years, having that disease himself. He understood the importance of community support to understand and survive complex medical disease.
Bob spent his final years at Sunrise of Oakville. The family would like to express their thanks to all the staff there, who delivered exemplary care, and made sure he was comfortable to the end.
A service will be held at the Kopriva Taylor Funeral Home on Friday, July 17. Visitation at 10, service at 11, and reception to follow.
The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be directed to the Alzheimers Association.
