Obituary

Passed away on Wednesday, October 21, 2009 at Ian Anderson House in Oakville. Born July 15, 1932 to the late Dr. and Mrs. E.P. Soanes ("Soapy" and "Stuart") of Oakville, wife of Lee S. Jacobs, loving mother of Mimi (Andresen) (Bob) Gray, Eric (Helena) Andresen, and Geoffrey (Dierdre) Rogers, devoted grandmother to Michael and Katie Gray, Morgan, Sean, Sasha and Dillon Andresen, sister of Dr. Stuart Soanes (deceased) and aunt to Wendy (Soanes) (Bill) Stone, Christopher (Lisa), Brian and Brooke Soanes. Virginia, Dee Dee to her Oakville friends, led a life filled with her passion for family, friends and travel. As president and founder of Adventure House Travel in Oakville she shared her love of "things different", and of nature, with anyone who came in contact with her. Virginia visited over 127 countries and most of the major, and minor, sights in the world. Whether to groups or individuals, via her weekly travel radio show on CHWO, or in her column in the Oakville Beaver she was always enthusiastic about the world she lived in. She shared her love of gardening, decorating, riding (fox hunting), art and music generously with friends and family. Married to Thorvald Andresen (deceased), Dane Stairs (deceased), William Parke Rogers (deceased) and her beloved Lee Jacobs, she faced many challenges in her life but never let them overcome her zest for life, curiosity about everything and her emphasis on family and friends. After a brief battle with cancer she is now at peace. Visitation will be at Kopriva Taylor Funeral Home, 64 Lakeshore Road West, (one block east of Kerr, 905-844-2600) Oakville, on Sunday, October 25 from 7:00-9:00pm. A Memorial Service in celebration of her life will be held at St. Jude's Church in Oakville on Monday, October 26, 2009 at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Ian Anderson House, www.IanAndersonHouse.com , or the Princess Margaret Lodge www.pmhf.ca in Toronto. To both of these facilities the family sends their heartfelt thanks for the loving care and support they provided during a difficult time.
