Brown, Virginia Louise (nee Hotte)

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Virginia Louise Brown on Tuesday, August 2, 2022 at the age of 74.

Dearly loved and adored, Virginia leaves behind her husband Ken, her children Cheryl (Anthony) Brands, Grant (Cathy) Scollay, Catherine (Jon) Benoit, and stepson Steve Brown.

She is also survived by her family in British Columbia, sister Loretta (James) Dallas, and brother Roger Hotte, niece Janet (Tim) Kreiter, nephew Andrew (Antje) Dallas and their families.

Virginia was blessed with many grandchildren whom she adored and loved so very much, Ashley, Michelle, Hillary, Justin, Johnathan, Cameron, Myles, Grayson and step grandchildren Zachary and Madison.

Virginia was predeceased by her first husband David Scollay (d.2000), and her parents Myles (d.1972) and Edith Hotte (d.2019).

Born in St. Catharines Ontario, on March 10, 1948, raised and educated there, Virginia became a middle school teacher.  She taught  for many years in St. Catharines, Etobicoke and Halton.  Virginia's passion for education prompted her to return to school.  She earned her Bachelors and Masters degrees in Social Work while raising three children.  She put her education to work at Joseph Brant Memorial Hospital in the Outpatient Psychiatry Department.

Virginia was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 2003 and found it necessary to retire from a career she loved.  She faced each day with bravery and determination.  In 2017 she moved to The Village of Wentworth Heights and later The Village of Tansley Woods in 2018 for more care and support.

Special thanks to The Villages of Wentworth Heights, Tansley Woods and Bayshore Health Care for the support and hard work of staff, PSWs and nurses.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Virginia's memory can be made to the MS Society of Canada or The War Amps.

Visitation will be held at the Kopriva Taylor Community Funeral Home, 64 Lakeshore Rd.
