ANDRADE, Virginia (nee Silveira) – It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Virginia Eugenia Faria de Silveira Andrade on August 19, 2021 peacefully surrounded by her family. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, John, and her daughters Judith (Heraldo) Moitoso of Cambridge and Lucy (Michael) Gruber of Oakville, granddaughters Angela (Peter) Topolovec, Donna (Scott) McAulay, Gloria, Faith and Nicole, and great-grandchildren Kaison and Everleigh McAulay, and Dario and Anika Topolovec. Predeceased by her parents Jose and Angelina Silveira and sister, Angelina. She leaves behind 7 brothers and sisters: Maria and Francisco of Faial, and Jose, Isaltina, Antonio, Delfina and Manuel of Rhode Island. She was the sister-in-law of Francisco and Maria Palmira of Oakville, Maria da Conceicao of British Columbia (deceased), and Delfina, Fernando, Antonio, Emilia, Maria das Dores and Noelia of Rhode Island. She will be missed by many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Virginia married John in 1957 and immigrated to Canada in 1959 from the island of Faial in the Azores, Portugal. She worked at Oakville's basket factory then cleaned homes for many years. She was an avid seamstress and lace crocheter and made beautiful crafts and crocheted angels which she donated to the St. James' church bazaar every year. She was also well known for her delicious Portuguese sweet bread which she made by the oven-load, and gave to friends and family at Easter, Pentecost, Christmas and whenever she felt like pulling out her massive ceramic bowl to beat the eggs and make loaf after loaf.
She spent many summers in her home town of Praia do Norte in Faial, Azores in her little oceanside home that she so loved. The house was originally her father's and she lovingly renovated it in the 1980s turning it into a sweet home-away-from-home. There she spent many hours socializing, cooking and sewing while enjoying the beautiful scenery and fresh ocean air.
She was deeply devoted to the Blessed Mother Mary and was often seen with a rosary in her hands telling us to be quiet because she was praying. She enjoyed being in church and would never neglect to have a mass said for a loved one who had passed. She often prayed for her family's health and well-being, and those heaven-sent prayers will be greatly missed.
She leaves us with many sweet memories as we bid Virginia a fond farewell until we meet again in God's sweet embrace. Visitation to be held at Kopriva Taylor Community Funeral Home 64 Lakeshore Rd W.
