It is with sadness that Vernon's family announces his passing after a long and active life and a many year struggle with cancer. He was predeceased by his first wife Gertrude of 53 years. He will be much missed by his dear second wife Shirley Erskine of 16 years, his sons Raymond (Christine) and Rodney (Nancy), daughter Deborah, grandchildren Adam (Deborah), Amanda, Camille (Michael), Jeffrey, Jenny (Shawn), Jude, Melanie (Matt), step grandchildren Steven and Valerie, 7 great-grandchildren, Shirley's daughters Janice (John) and Jennifer (Raymond), and their children, other family members and friends.

He had a long and successful career; He was employed by Royal Bank for 41 years, starting in Binscarth, Manitoba as a clerk, and serving in Winnipeg, Montreal and Toronto, ending his service in Operations and Systems, as Manager, Procedures & Documentation.. He graduated from Queen's University and Concordia University. Also, as a young man he served as a Paymaster in Canadian Army reserves for 10 years. In retirement he operated Kingdon Communication Inc,

Vernon was an active curler, golfer and lawn bowler, an avid reader, author of family autobiographies and he enjoyed vacation travel to many parts of the world. With the assistance of his family, he built a summer cottage. He was active in the United Church, community service included ten years with Meals on Wheels and he was a life member of the Kiwanis service club.

He enjoyed family life, frequently visiting local family members and those across Canada. He was generous and supportive with close family. He has been described as a gentle man, gracious and caring, not just to his own extended family but to the community in need. He was generous with his time, wisdom and resources.

Visitation will be held at Kopriva Taylor Community Funeral Home, 64 Lakeshore Road West, Oakville, ON. On Saturday August 3, 2024 from 11 am – 12 noon with a Funeral Service in the Chapel at 12 Noon.  Reception to follow in the Kopriva Lounge.  If desired, contributions to Cancer Research in lieu of flowers would be appreciated.
