It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Valerio Antonio Jose Torcato on December 11, 2021 at age 85 surrounded by his family.

Valerio is survived by his loving wife Myrtle.  Dearest dad to Valencia, Vanita and Vinay. Loved mentor to his son-in-law Andrew.  Cherished Pai to his grandchildren Ethan and Leah.

Valerio was born in Goa (a Portuguese colony until 1961), India on July 5, 1936.  He spent his school and early working years in Calcutta, India. He moved back to Goa after he married Myrtle on November 5, 1972.

Valerio was a quiet, strong and an extremely hardworking man. His love and dedication for his family was deep and unselfish. A testament of this love and dedication, as well as his strength, became abundantly clear when he left his life in Goa and moved to Canada with the family.  He did so to provide more opportunities for his kids and he did this at the age of 58, after retiring from a successful career as an engineer in Goa. With a lot of determination and his faith he found a job as an engineer and worked until age 77. He often talked about the risk he took to come to Canada and how it has paid off.

Valerio loved to sing and was a member of the choir at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Oakville from 1996 until March 2020 when the pandemic hit.

We are a very close family and his loss is immense. He meant so much to us. We will miss him terribly but we know he is watching over us and his legacy lives on in each of us.

Visitation will be held at the Kopriva Taylor Funeral Home, 64 Lakeshore Road West, Oakville (one block East of Kerr Street) on Thursday December 16, 2021 from 5 pm to 7 pm.  (Double vaccination is required for entry.)  Funeral Mass will be held on Friday December 17, 2021 at 11 am at St. Michael's Roman Catholic Church, 181 Sewell Drive, Oakville.  Cremation to follow.
