IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Valentyna
Zaika-Ahatieva
May 24, 1948 – May 13, 2021
Valentyna Zaike-Ahatieva was a caring wife, mother and grandmother. After suffering a heart attack and developing complications, Valentyna left the world on May 13, 2021, at the age of 73.
She was born to Peter and Natalia Sasin on May 24, 1948 in a small village in Russia. The afterwar childhood wasn't very easy as she often recalled her 8 km walk to school every day and the simple meal of a glass of milk and a slice of bread. After graduating high school Valentyna chased her dreams and moved to Ukraine, where she had some relatives. This little town was the start of her career as a cook. After 15 years in business, she became a chef. The restaurant kitchen was the place where she met her first husband Peter. Together, they had a child: Olena.
Valentyna loved spending time in the kitchen, creating delicious meals for her family or sharing with friends. She was also a skilled gardener. Most weekends one would find Valentyna taking care of her crops or fruit trees.
After 28 years of marriage, Peter departed. At almost the same time, her daughter moved to Canada with her family. It was a very lonely and challenging time for Valentyna. During this time, she received support from a family friend, Oleg. After some time, they decided to join their lives together. It was a beautiful love story of two mature people who cared very deeply for each. After 10 happy years together, Oleg passed as well.
With the encouragement and insistence of her daughter, Valentyna agreed to move to Canada to live with her daughter's family. It was a happy time as she spent many memorable moments together with her loved ones. Mommy and grandma Valentyna will be missed so much.
A private funeral service is scheduled on May 16, 2021 at Kopriva Taylor Community Funeral Home, 64 Lakeshore rd W, Oakville.
