IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Thomas (Tom)
Preston
September 18, 1936 – November 22, 2025
Peacefully on November 22, 2025 surrounded by family, Tom joined his loving wife Judie (dec. Mar 23, 2007).
Also jokingly known as Ickibod. Tom was a loving father to Wendy (Mike) Schwarz and Robert (Nick Rodrigue) (the late Raymond Gonsalves). An adored grandfather/Baba to Adam (Laura) Schwarz and Tyler (Julie) Schwarz and great-grandfather/Baba to Karl and Mira Schwarz. Brother to Cliff (Elizabeth) Preston and uncle to Michael (Raffaella) Preston and Karen Preston. Great-uncle to Lindsay, Jacob, Daniella, and Ryan Preston. Cousin to the Noble & Weldon families.
He cared deeply for his friends and was a committed and loyal friend to the late Ann Pollock, the Mulvale family, McLean and Brown, McNally, Radford, Jenson, and Saulez families. He was a member of the K.R.T. with many schoolmates for over 70 years. He also belonged tot the Canadian Club of Halton and faithfully attended many meetings over the years.
Tom will always be remembered for his love of family and good friends, his sense of humour, and his passion for travelling. He was always ready for the next adventure. Tom's passion for the Railway ranged from scale model railway to travelling some of the famous lines and even taking final voyages retiring some Canadian steam locomotives. Tom was a steadfast supporter of the Leafs, Blue Jays, and Hamilton Ti-Cats.
Tom had a long and full career in Accounting and Finance working over 27 years with General Bakery, where he claimed his job was 'putting holes in the donuts'. He went on to work with Neilson Dairy, Cambridge Towel, and Iserve Technology Consulting Ltd.
By public appointment, Tom served multiple terms as a member of the Funeral Board of Ontario and volunteered on the boards of the National Association of Canadian Clubs, The Canadian Club of Oakville, and St. John's United Church. Tom was also actively involved in numerous political campaigns.
A genuine people person who never complained and inevitably found the silver lining in every situation. When asked how he was, Tom invariably replied "I'm hanging in there like a dirty shirt".
