Obituary

The family of Susan FitzGerald (née Edgerton) is sad to announce her passing on April 1 in Milton, with her two children, Eugénie and Dorian, by her bedside.

Susan was born on September 14, 1941, in Amersham, a small town northwest of London, England. She was the daughter of Ron and Mary, and the older sister of Tim and Nick. Following in her mother’s footsteps, she trained as a nurse.

She later married Charles FitzGerald, a Canadian. After the birth of their first child, Eugénie, Susan moved to Canada, where the family settled in Mississauga and welcomed their second child, Dorian.

While raising her children, Susan stepped back from nursing, and her creative life began to flourish. She was, first and foremost, a quilter, but over the years she also made clothing for her children, explored macramé, cultivated her love of gardening, and later took up rug hooking.

In the late 1980s, Susan joined the Canadian Red Cross, where she worked as an administrator and later as an emergency coordinator. After her marriage ended, she moved to Georgetown in the late 1990s. There, she built a strong community, deepened her creative pursuits, and thrived in her career.

Susan retired in 2016 and lived happily until her health declined, at which point she moved into long-term care.
