Obituary

Born in Weybridge, Surrey, UK, 23 August 1989.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved son/brother Stefan Andrea Mastrogiacomo on September 26, 2018. He is survived by his parents, Alessandro Mastrogiacomo (Ottawa) and Debbie Quarin (Kingston), and sisters Lauren and Elsa.

Stefan's parents moved their family back to Canada in 2008 and established themselves in Oakville as it reminded them of Weybridge. Stefan was a creative soul, marching to the beat of his own drum.  His bike passions started in his youth, challenging himself with BMX air tricks over the trails and jumps he and his friends built in St Georges Hill (UK), near the former home of John Lennon of the Beatles.  This continued with building and modifying countless bikes that were as unique as he was.  As an adult, his creative passions took him into the world of cocktail bartending, where he continued to refine his love of fine spirits and share his creations with his guests.  This brought him great happiness and also to those he served. He was constantly researching new recipes and developing new elixirs in the kitchen.  Stefan was known for his distinctive sense of style, from hats, glasses and vests to his unique watches, which were often a challenge for the average person to read the time – never one to follow trends, always staying true to himself. Stefan was fiercely proud of his Italian heritage, English upbringing, and Canadian nationality. Playing poker, backgammon and scopa also gave him great pleasure.

As Stefan eschewed social media, he was an avid writer filling hundreds of journals over the years. English Black Moleskin journals and German Faber-Castell fountain pens were his tools of choice. Occasional explosions of Kaweco ink cartridges were evident.

Stefan sought only a bit of recognition and love that at times proved difficult for him to accept and challenging to give for those close to him. His birth was one of the happiest moments in his parent's lives, his passing has been by far the saddest. Our hearts are beyond broken.

Stefan, it has been too short of a time to have had you in our lives and we will always love you. May you find eternal peace and relief in the arms of God and may we all be kind to one another.
