Shirley Marie Kirwan (nee McDermott)

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Shirley Kirwan at Northridge Long Term Care Home in Oakville, Ontario on February 18, 2023 at the age of 89 years.

She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Terri Kirwan, Cheryl (Kevin) Jones, Debbie (John) Costa and Barb Bingham, her daughter in law Sue Kirwan, her grandchildren Jaime (Sean) Streit, Jason (Katharine) Costa, Steven (Zoe) Kirwan, Amanda (Ryan) Donnelly, Sydney Bingham, Kelsey Bingham and her 5 great grandchildren.

Preceded in death by her loving husband Keith Kirwan of 58 years, son David Kirwan and her parents: Thomas and Marie McDermott.

Shirley met her loving husband while in the Canadian Air Force and spent the first years of their marriage moving around to various bases in Canada and overseas, finally settling in Mississauga, Ontario where they settled down to raise their 5 children.  She worked for many years at Duracell, retiring at the age of 60 to enjoy family times in their summer home.  Many a fun time was had.

Shortly after her husband's passing, she was diagnosed with dementia, which sadly took away many of her previous memories, but never affected her quick wit and sense of humor.  We will always remember Mom before this terrible disease took over and even in her last few days had many laughs with her.  Her smile was infectious.

The family wish to thank the staff of Northbridge Long Term Care Home (and particularly those in Chisholm House) for the care they provided to Mom.  She always felt well cared for and specifically told us many times that they treated her with respect and dignity during her time there.

She is finally at peace and back with those who have crossed over.  God bless and keep her.

A Memorial Service will be held at Kopriva Taylor Community Funeral Home Saturday April 29, 2023 at 11 am with reception to follow.
