Shirley passed away peacefully on December 29, 2025, at Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital. She was born on March 18, 1935, in Belle River, PEI to James and Sarah Cook.

Shirley will be deeply missed by her husband, John Hammond Krug; her sons David (Kelly) and Peter (Irene); and by her beloved grandchildren, Nolan and Samantha, who simply knew her as "Nana." She will also be lovingly remembered by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. The youngest of nine Cook siblings and the last surviving member of her immediate family, Shirley carried forward the spirit of the Cook family in the ever-growing extended family she loved so deeply.

Her heart always remained in Belle River, PEI and at "the little house" near Simon's Shore that John and her lovingly restored. Summers filled with golf at Belfast Greens, lobster dinners, drinks in the screened porch, and drop in visits from family and friends were among her greatest joys, and she remained closely connected to the Belle River community throughout her life.

In Oakville, Shirley was an active part of her church family, serving as an elder at St. John's United for many years.

Shirley was a strong, determined, and caring woman, unmatched in her ability to get things done and to look after the people around her until she simply could not anymore. Her body gave up before her spirit ever did. She also carried in her heart the dear friends and family who went before her, and we take comfort in knowing she is now reunited with those she loved and missed so deeply.

A funeral service will take place at St. John's United in Oakville, Ontario on January 9th at 11am with a memorial and burial to follow in the spring at Belle River Cemetery, PEI
