Sheila May North (née Waterhouse) left this world on Tuesday, April 28th, 2026, and the world feels a little quieter without her laughter in it. Born in Bulyea, Saskatchewan, the second of six children to (Thomas) Herbert and Diana Waterhouse, Sheila’s early years took her family to British Columbia — first Surrey, then Summerland — where she grew up, married, and raised her family.
She was first married to Keith Taylor, with whom she had her two eldest daughters, Gail and Kathy. Sheila later married the love of her life, Donald North, on November 30th, 1972. Together they built a happy life in Delta, BC, where they welcomed 2 more children together, Jodi and DJ. Sheila stayed home raising all of the children, while Don travelled for work as a salesman. In 1986, life took a turn for the family when a work transfer brought Sheila, Don, Jodi, and DJ to Ontario.
Sheila taught those around her what it meant to show up for people. Whether it was a school concert, dance recital, baptism, wedding, or birthday, she had a way of making others feel seen and loved. She cherished her volunteer work within the community, serving many years as a co‑ordinator at a local food bank and helping at her church, where many became like family over the years.
She leaves behind a legacy of family who will carry forward her stories, her recipes, her sayings, and the love she gave so freely. She will be dearly missed by her children Gail (Kristin), Kathy (Rod), Jodi (David), and DJ (Helen), and her niece Sandra (Mark), who was like a daughter to her.
A devoted Nana, she will never be forgotten by her grandchildren Christopher (Sarah), Alex, Sammi, Chloe, Tyler, Zachary, Noah (Maddy), Bailey, Annika, Ethan, Eli, and Thomas; her nephews Matthew (Linh) and Nicholas (Gabby); her great‑grandchildren Evan, Maxie, and Wyatt; and her grand‑niece Madison.
She is survived by her siblings Leslie (Ben), Dorothy (Bob), Frances, Michael (Edith), and Cynthia (Traffy), along with countless nieces and nephews she loved dearly. She is now reunited with her beloved husband of almost 30 years, Donald North, who passed before her.
A visitation will take place at Kopriva Taylor Funeral Home, on Friday, May 1st from 4pm-8pm, 64 Lakeshore Road West, Oakville. A service to honour a life well lived will be held on Saturday, May 2nd, 2026, at 11 a.m. at Church of the Epiphany, 141 Bronte Road, Oakville. Burial will take place at Trafalgar Lawn Cemetery following a reception at the church. The family invites all who knew her to join in remembering her with gratitude and love.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Church of the Epiphany in Sheila’s name are appreciated.
