Sheila Margaret Curran (Wickware) died quietly and comfortably in hospital in Oakville on December 21, 2020, just 3 days short of her 96 ^th birthday.  Peter and Susan, Tom and Elaine, Jennifer and Colin, and Stephen and Carol will miss her, as will her grandchildren Joshua and Julie, Mackenzie and Hannah and her siblings Josephine, and Geoff.  She is predeceased by Sister Anne and Brothers Clive and Jim.

Mom lived as full a life as anyone could ever dream.  She was old-school - wife and mother, first last and always.  And in those roles, she experienced so, so much.

Born in 1924, she was five years old when the stock markets crashed and the Great Depression set in -  old enough to know the what, if not the why, of  hard times.  She was only 15 when World War II broke out.  Her years of growing into adulthood were a time of sacrifice - she saw siblings head off to the fight, while at home her parents - veterans of the first War both - made sure everyone did their part.  But as she became an adult, she saw the world blossom with peace, innovation and opportunity.   As tough as times had been, it was an awakening to a whole new way of life.

And her part of that world centered, soon enough, on Alex, who epitomized those years.  Energetic, dedicated, educated, he became a pioneer of the new age of electronic magic. Those were his talents - hers were the ability to be his rock, his partner, his confidant.  The one who made sure that everything ran smoothly as his world moved at an ever-faster pace.  As his career took them from Montreal to Ottawa, to California, to Toronto, back to Ottawa, to Saskatoon, and finally to Oakville, they never stopped exploring.  And never stopped learning - seeing the world as tourists and on business, from China to South America to Europe, to Australia.

Her second career - as mother - we, as her children, would consider her most successful. She raised four confident, capable and successful professionals, all of who were lucky enough to have a model marriage to learn from.

And a model life. When mom wasn't partnering with dad, or raising children, she was devoting her time to others.  Her church, numerous charities - she was still working at the Nearly New Shop of the May Court Club in Oakville in her 80s - and being there for neighbours filled those hours that somehow were available.

After Alex died a few years ago, there was a giant hole in her life. And yet she remained steadfast, missing him dreadfully and yet living each day with courage.

Her passing was peaceful.  Physically she remained remarkably healthy, until her heart simply said "enough."  In these days of crisis, there will not be a funeral service, but we know all the many, many people she touched over the years will have a moment's pause.
