Serena Mary Elizabeth Stewart passed away at the age of 81 in Oakville, Ontario.

Serena is survived by her five children Michelle, Claire, Maureen (Eric), Sheila (David) and James (Shannon); 14 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, three sisters and a brother. She was predeceased by her beloved granddaughter, Zaira, and two husbands, Darrell Biggers and Charles Stewart.

Serena lived a long and rich life dedicated to service, caretaking, and a deep appreciation for nature. She grew up in both rural and urban communities, including Kimberly Valley, Willowdale, Toronto, and Hanover. She worked for several years at RBC before earning her Bachelor’s degree from the University of Toronto, graduating cum laude. Serena completed her degree as a young adult while raising four children.

Oakville, where she lived for 57 years, became the place where she built her career as a residential support worker at CWSDS (Oaklands). She was a deeply admired and dedicated colleague there for more than 35 years. In retirement, Serena enjoyed gardening, spending time with friends, and creating many meaningful memories with her children and beloved grandchildren.

Serena was also deeply passionate about and supportive of Indigenous and First Nations peoples. She will be remembered for her compassion, empathy, generosity, love of music, and wry sense of humour.
