Obituary

Born Carmel Sarah Milne at Kingston, ON, on July 17, 1912 to Peter Milne and Sarah Carey; died in Oakville, ON, on November 2, 2008; B.A., Queens University, 1933. Predeceased by William Alfred (Bill) Hoffman, her loving husband of 57 years; devoted mother to Margo and late husband Ted, Peter and wife Frances, Nancy, and Dick; loving grandmother of Jamie and Shawn Gregor, Paul and Sarah Hoffman, and Caroline Hoult, and great-grandmother of seven, Sally lived a long and eventful life in Kingston, northern mining communities Noranda, Kashabowie, Elliot Lake and Sudbury, with an interruption during WWII in Montreal, and later periods in Mississauga, Florida and Oakville. As a young woman, she was ladies tennis champion of Kingston. Sally inherited from her mother a tremendous desire for the success in education of her own descendants. After her family had matured, she had a career at Laurentian University as Scholarship and Awards Officer, and in the second half of her life she became an avid golfer. Sally worked tirelessly on charitable and public organizational activities, for the Red Cross, University Women's Club and the CWL, among others. She continued to be a passionate television sports fan well into her 90's, much to the amusement of her health assistants. The family expresses its gratitude to the staff at Wyndham Manor for their care and kindness. A family funeral has been held. Donations to the Oakville-Trafalgar Memorial Hospital in Sally's memory will be gratefully received.
