Ruth Read Macdonald Auclair, passed away peacefully in her 100th year on January 9, 2015, at her home in Oakville, Ontario. She was born in Oakville in 1915 to Herbert Lionel Read and Agnes Isabel Read, and was the youngest of eight children.
She married Garth William Kerr Macdonald and together they raised a son, Colin Garth Read Macdonald. She later remarried Jean Auclair, also now deceased.
A lifelong Oakville resident, Ruth was an enthusiastic world traveller well into her 90s. She was very athletic and loved playing golf, tennis, and badminton and was always up for a lively game of bridge with her friends. She wasn't afraid of hard work and played a big part in the building of their home. Family and friends remember her as fun loving, generous, and kind.
She is survived by her son Colin, daughter-in-law Carol, and her granddaughter Mia Lauren Chieko Macdonald of Honolulu.
Special thanks are owed to Ruth Anne Winter, daughter of her longtime friend Ruth Folland, Dr. Helen Pyle, and her caregivers Rosie Alcantara, and Julie Manangan.
A private service to remember Ruth will be held on February 6, 2015 at the St. Jude's Anglican Church garden.
If desired, memorial donations may be made to Acclaim Health or to the Town of Oakville's Memorial Tree Program for Gairloch Gardens.
