IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Ronald Clarence
Schaubel
July 2, 1937 – April 1, 2024
Peacefully on Easter Monday, April 1, 2024, dear husband and greatest treasure of Nancy for 56 years, loving father of Terry (Erin Hurley) and Alan (Laura Turner). Predeceased by his beloved son Glenn and infant daughter Caroline, and siblings Janice Gibbs and Trenton Schaubel (Lori Stevenson). Survived by precious grandchildren Matthew, Brock, Kurt and Hallie (Schaubel) and Aaden and Keely (Hurley), and sisters Joan Pattinson (Ted) and Dorene Priebe (Jim).
Ron grew up near Stevensville, Ontario, and, at the tender age of 18, left the family farm to attend The Ryerson Institute of Technology in Toronto, graduating in 1958. He worked at INCO in Port Colborne before and after a year of travelling the world. In 1962, he began his career of over 34 years with Atomic Energy of Canada (Sheridan Park), working on site at Douglas Point, Pickering, Chalk River, Point Lepreau (N.B.), South Korea, and Cordoba, Argentina. Along the way he fitted in night school classes earning, in 1977, his Ryerson University Bachelor of Technology degree in Mechanical Engineering. Ron valued his long-time friendships with Bill Reed (Ryerson) and Walter Dicks (A.E.C.L.).
Ron and Nancy met on April 3, 1967 while taking ballroom dancing lessons at the YWCA on McGill Street in Toronto. Ron danced into Nancy's heart and they were married ten months later. They raised their boys in the family home in Oakville and enjoyed "cottaging" in the peace and beauty of the Parry Sound area. Being able to travel from time to time (with and without the kids) was a privilege. Ron was a family man and there wasn't anything he wouldn't do for his boys. He loved them dearly and respected them, and that love and respect was returned tenfold. This dear man will be greatly missed. How wonderful that he was ours! Those who wish may make a memorial donation in Ron's name to the Canadian Cancer Society, Prostate Cancer Research. Thanks be to God for so many blessings.
