Obituary

PEARSON, Ronald Forsyth

Born in Glasgow, Scotland on November 21, 1937, Ron passed away peacefully in Oakville Memorial Hospital December 18, 2022. Diagnosed with Parkinson's In 2002, it progressively limited his activities in retirement, but he remained positive throughout.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Carolyn (Lynn), son Andrew (Sandrine) and Colin (Susi) and his granddaughters, Chloé, Leah, Sophie and Isabelle.

Ron left secondary school at age 15, continuing his education at night school while he was serving a five year trade apprenticeship in a local shipyard. The apprenticeship began with hands-on work on the shop floor and elevated to white-collar positions in the drawing and design offices. His night school credits allowed him to enter third year at University of Strathclyde, graduating with a BSc(hons) in Mechanical Engineering. After graduating, he was hired by a large electrical manufacturer in Manchester, England, in a product training role. A year later, Ron decided to emigrate to Canada, where engineers were in short supply.

Ron arrived in Montréal in 1962, with limited funds, and was fortunate to be hired by Dominion Engineering Works. After four years at DEW working in Quality Assurance and supervising it's Experimental Research program, he took a leave of absence to obtain his MBA at McGill University.

After graduation, he was hired by Canadian Aviation Electronics, first as Manager of Quality Assurance, then Director of Business Systems. He left to become Vice-President of a small data processing company partly owned by Royal Bank. He then moved to Royal Bank to take over various positions implementing new systems, improving programmer and analyst productivity, integrating Royal Trust operations, and took early retirement as Senior Manager in the Audit department.

In his early life, he spent many weekends kayaking and camping on Scotland's Loch Lomond islands. In Canada he enjoyed alpine and cross-country skiing, tennis, golf, and had a private pilot license. He met his wife, Lynn, skiing at Jay Peak, Vermont and spent more than 40 happy years together. He will be greatly missed.

Cremation has taken place and there will be a Celebration of Life on Saturday, January 21, 2022 from 2:00pm - 4:00 pm at Kopriva Taylor Community Funeral Home, 64 Lakeshore Rd. W. Oakville.
