Ronald Hamilton
Collum
July 16, 1937 – September 26, 2025
Ron passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family, on the morning of Friday, September 26, 2025. Ron was the devoted husband of 63 years plus to Madelene (née Melvin) and proud father to Robert Collum, Lucinda Lehtinen (Dirk), and Rebecca Collum (Trevor) and proud grandfather to Cole Lehtinen. He is remembered by his brother Ken (Maureen), and dearly remembered by his sister-in-law Audrey Melvin. Uncle to several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his father William Collum and his mother and step-father Janet and William Madden, his sister Doris and brother-in-law Ross Davis, mother and father-in-law Mary and Robert Melvin, and brother-in-law Robert Melvin.
Ron was a devoted pillar of his community, generously giving his time to numerous civic and fraternal organizations. His active involvement in ACT and the Rotary Club of Oakville reflected his deep commitment to service. A 32nd Degree Mason of the Scottish Rite and Past President of the Oakville Shrine Club (1995). Ron touched countless lives and left a lasting legacy of leadership, generosity, and dedication through these and many other contributions to his community.
Ron exemplified a remarkable work ethic from a young age taking on jobs at farms, a gas station and a local dry cleaner. Determined to advance himself, he pursued university-level night school courses as he progressed his banking career. He served in various capacities within the banking industry, most notably he played a key role in the launch of Chargex, which would later become Visa, branch manager at multiple locations, and held positions in inspection and fraud prevention. After retiring at 55, Ron launched his own investment advisory business which he led with passion and integrity well into his 80's.
Ron's passions extended beyond his work. He found joy in gardening, cooking, music, and was an avid collector. His love for animals was evident in the way he welcomed them into his life, whether it was a kitten brought home from the office or a puppy from the pet store. Above all, Ron was a dedicated family man and mentor, leading by example with his generosity, community involvement, and compassion for others. His legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. He is already deeply missed.
Cremation has taken place. A private family service will be held at a later date.
