Obituary

Bob passed away peacefully on May 1, 2012 at Bastion Place, Salmon Arm, B.C., at the age of 91years. Bob was predeceased by his first wife Hazel and second wife Elsie. He is survived by his loving family, two sons, Bob (Pat) of Strathmore, Alberta and Mike (Katrina) of Muskoka, Ontario, daughter Marg (Guy) Gibbs of Calgary, Alberta; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Bob was born in Edmonton, AB and at an early age moved to Mission. B.C. He joined the Westminster Regiment, II M.G. Battalion at the age of 17 and earned his commission in England. He joined the First Special Service Force (Devil's Brigade) and was severely wounded in Anzio, Italy. He finished the War with the Canadian Headquarters Unit in the South of France. He married Hazel in 1946, while attending UBC, Vancouver. In 1952 they moved to Toronto where Bob attempted to re-enlist for Korea. He was certified not fit for a combat assignment due to his previous injuries sustained in WWII. He joined the RCAMC, and served at various military bases in Canada and Europe including the Yukon, Camp Borden, Germany, Quebec, Oakville, Kingston and Calgary. After retiring from the Armed Forces in 1974, in Calgary, Bob served as the Administrator at the St. Boniface Hospital, Winnipeg. He retired from his position in 1980 and moved to Oakville. Hazel passed away there in 1982. Bob moved to Salmon Arm, B.C. in 1986 and married Elsie (Moore). Following Elsie's passing in 2007, Bob Continued to reside in Salmon Arm where he was a very dedicated member of the Royal Canadian Legion and Lions Club. The family would like to acknowledge and give thanks to all Bob's caregivers and those special friends who were there for him during his final years in Salmon Arm. A private, family interment for Bob will be held at a later date at St. Jude's Cemetery in Oakville, ON. Memorial donations in Bob's name may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Kopriva Taylor Community Funeral Home, 64 Lakeshore Rd. West, Oakville, Ontario, L6K 1E1.
