Passed away peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones, after a year long heroic battle with brain cancer. Beloved husband of Barbara Leahy. Cherished father of Tanya Placzek (Daniel),Michael and Kylee. Special grandfather to James. Loving step-son to Bill Hughes. Predeceased by both of his parents Marion Hughes and Richard Leahy Sr. Loving brother to Roy Pearson (Stephanie). Treasured son in-law to Marg and John Dunn. Brother in-law to Theresa, Bev (Andre), Angie (Jack). Beloved uncle to many nieces and nephews. Richard was a true and loyal friend to a great many people across all walks of life both young and old. Visitation will be held 7-9 pm Tuesday and 2-4 and 7-9 pm Wednesday at the Kopriva Taylor Community Funeral Home, 64 Lakeshore Road West, (one block east of Kerr, 905-844-2600), Oakville. Funeral service held at 1:00 pm Thursday November 10, 2011 at Walton Memorial United Church, 2489 Lakeshore Rd., W., Oakville. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Princess Margaret Hospital, Jerry and Nancy Pencer Brain Tumor Clinic or the Canadian Cancer Society Mississauga Transportation Unit.
