IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Rene Joseph
Bouchard
March 17, 1930 – May 4, 2023
Rene Joseph Bouchard passed away peacefully at Wyndham Manor on May 4, 2023 after a long and happy life. Dearly loved husband for 67 years to Marjorie (nee Cartwright). Proud father of David (Diana), Paul (Rosemary) and Michael. Adored grandfather of Aimee (Liam) and Laura (Alex) and survived by many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by father Clovis (1937), mother Lucienne (1995), brother Arthur (2004) and sister-in-law Jeanne (2012).
Rene was born and raised in New Toronto where he became an acclaimed athlete, playing Junior Lacrosse, Junior B hockey and pitching hardball for teams in New Toronto and Toronto. In 1955, he was recruited by coach Bud Corbett to play for the Oakville Oaks Baseball Team. The team went on to win the Ontario Championship in 1956.
Rene met Marjorie in 1950 at a dance hall in Port Credit and they were married in 1955. They purchased a new home in Oakville that year where they have lived ever since. They had close relationships with their neighbors and their families, sharing good times at house parties, camping trips and Christmas tree cutting expeditions. Rene and the neighbors shared their time and skills helping each other to finish basements, build porches, add room extensions and replace roofs.
Rene was a letter carrier for Canada Post for 35 years. He was an avid golfer and soon after he retired from the Post Office he went to work at the Glen Abbey Golf Club as a shuttle driver during the summers for 16 years. During their retirement, Rene and Marjorie spent their winters at their mobile home in Southgate Park, Florida where they golfed and excelled at yet another sport, shuffleboard, winning many awards.
He shared his sports skills and knowledge with his three sons, coaching them on and off the field and rink.
The family would like to thank the Paramed Staff, particularly PSW's Susanna and Elio and nurse Arlene for their excellent care and also the staff at Wyndham Manor.
The family will receive visitors at Kopriva-Taylor Community Funeral Home, 64 Lakeshore Road West, Oakville on Wednesday, May 17, 2023, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 p.m. A Celebration of Life will take place at 7:00 p.m., with refreshments to follow. Cremation has taken place and a private family interment at St. Jude's Cemetery will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to a charity of your choice in Rene's memory would be appreciated. Online condolences at www.koprivataylor.com
