Obituary

On the evening of January 13, in his 93rd year and with his family at his side, Ray slipped quietly into the next realm.  We hope he has reunited with his beloved Rosemary who left us 23 years ago and for whom he has grieved every day.

A quiet, elegant and intelligent man, Ray lived a full and remarkable life, embarking on adulthood by joining the RAF and volunteering as an aerial photographic interpreter during the Korean War.  He moved to Canada in 1955 where he married Rosemary and raised their family in Toronto.  His engineering background led him to work on the design of the Avro Arrow, and years later to join Pyrene Fire Extinguisher Corp where he ultimately became President.  In time, when Chubb Industries had acquired Pyrene, he enjoyed many years as President and CEO of Chubb, ultimately retiring as Chairman of the Board of Chubb Industries North America.  Ray will be remembered for his love of travel and superb dinner parties, his extraordinary woodworking masterpieces, his love of antiques, and the kindness and affection he showed those around him.  He put others before himself, and he will be very much missed by his sister, Joyce Brown of the UK, his daughter Sandra (Steve), his son Chris (Maureen), his doting grandchildren Caroline, Sarah (Quinn), Olivia, Andrew and Emma, and UK family members and friends around the world.

Cremation and private family burial service to follow.
