Obituary

It is with profound sadness that the family of Raymond Richard King announces his passing after a brief illness on Thursday, June 11 th , 2020, at the age of 84 years. Raymond will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 62 years, Theresa, and his children (predeceased) Trevor (Doris), Debbie (Mark), Kevin, Carrol, Joanne (Glen). Raymond will be fondly remembered by his eight grandchildren; Michael, Danielle, Zara and Sonia, Jordan, Katie, Shania, Tamara and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Raymond was the eldest of 12 children (predeceased) of John and Iris King. Raymond was a loving father and a devoted husband who was quick to offer a helping hand to the many people who were lucky enough to have known him. Many looked to him as a role model and saw him as an extraordinary example of strength and perseverance in the face of overwhelming obstacles.

Raymond was born November 17 th , 1935, in Kolar Gold Fields, India. He was educated in the mining industry in the United Kingdom, and worked the vast majority of his career in Ghana, West Africa for Ashanti Goldfields, retiring as one of the mines top engineers. His long career at Ashanti was a true highlight of his life; his work ethic and knowledge was highly respected and he maintained lifelong connections with friends and colleagues.  He truly loved Ghana and shared many stories of the happy times enjoyed there with Theresa and the family.  In 1996, Raymond retired to Canada and lived peacefully with his family.  A man of great faith and generosity; friend, family and stranger can all recall the helping hand of Raymond King. He cherished his family above all and was a truly beloved Patriarch. He will be sorely missed.
