It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Ramona Marvel Cedeño Arias at Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital on Monday, August 10th. Marvel is survived by her son Tomas (Brenda) and granddaughters Gaby and Olivia (Renato).
Known and loved as “Abuela” by all who knew her, Marvel was a strong and independent woman who cared deeply for her family and circle of friends. Born in Oriente, Cuba, Marvel moved to Havana by herself at the age of 14 to begin working as a nanny, she stayed in Havana and built her life there, until immigrating to Canada at the age of 57 to join her son Tomas as he started his own family.
Marvel was known for her capacity to love, helping raise her granddaughters as well as caring for the children of her family members and friends. Marvel loved to spend time having meaningful conversations in person or on the phone with family and friends, and you could often find her cooking - notably her famous croquetas and frijoles - sewing, doing crossword puzzles, and watching every Blue Jays game. Abuela will be missed dearly, but will remain eternally in our hearts.
In lieu of flowers and given her passion for children’s wellbeing, if desired please consider a donation to World Vision.
