It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Phil on Thursday, March 21, 2013 in Oakville with his family by his side. Phil was born in England, but came to Canada in his first year where he resided in Toronto, then Port Credit and finally moved to Oakville in 1975. Phil was an amazing cabinet maker who loved to build his own sailboats, he was an active member of his church, a cub scout leader, a history buff, a volunteer at his grandchildren's public school, loved to sail, row, bike, read, skate, play badminton, entertain children and adults with his various talents and play the music for Sir John Colborne Centre and dance with his wonderful wife.
He will be profoundly missed and lovingly remembered by his beloved wife of 60 years, Betty, his children, Lynn (Jamie Macdonald), Carol (Graham Elliot), Graham Shaw (Cindy) and Brian Shaw (Kathy) and his 8 grandchildren, Geoff, Katie, Ann Marie, Christopher, David, Gordon, Stephanie and Riley. Phil will also be missed by his sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Phil is predeceased by his sisters Joan Hope and Nancy McCann.
Phil put up a courageous battle his last 2 years and was an inspiration to all who knew him for his amazingly strong will to live and his sense of humour that never quit. We would like to thank the many nurses and personal support workers who cared for Phil, with special thanks to Mariella, Audrey and Ewa, your amazing kindness and care will never be forgotten.
Visitation will be held at the Kopriva Taylor Community Funeral Home, 64 Lakeshore Rd.
