IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Philip
Pryce-Jones
July 10, 1938 – July 26, 2024
The world just became a little less funny. Philip Pryce-Jones, aged 86, passed away peacefully on July 26, 2024, in Oakville, Ontario, with his family close by. Our sincere thanks to all of the ICU Staff at OTMH, and all the caregivers at Chartwell Waterford, his retirement home for the last few years.
Born on July 10, 1938, in Rugby, UK, Philip lived a life full of rich experiences, incredible opportunities and travel, and of course plenty of high quality scotch whisky, usually paid for by one of his sons.
Philip was the beloved husband of Deirdre, his wife of 60 years. A devoted father to his four sons: Guy (predeceased 2021), Marcus, Richard, and Matthew. His legacy extends to his grandchildren Georgia, Timothy, Collette, Megan, Kyle, Keegan, Jasmine, and Sofia, as well as his great-granddaughter Delilah. He loved his family, and enjoyed every moment he spent with them.
Philip's professional journey was distinguished and varied. His most cherished time was serving on the HMY Britannia, something he'd miraculously be able to remind you of during every conversation, even if you didn't know him. He was eternally proud of his service on the Royal Yacht, and later in life, his naval service afforded Deirdre and himself the opportunity to dine with Queen Elizabeth. Another thing he would bring up given half the chance. Later, he had a very successful career with IBM, but forever the explorer, decided to expand his horizons and relocate the family to Oakville in 1977. A move that would ultimately deprive him of watching "Match of the Day" with a lukewarm beer, a steak and kidney pie, chips and mushy peas. But this selfless act gave his family far more opportunity. And of course, better quality take-out food than you could find on a Saturday afternoon in the UK in the 1970's.
He was an active member of the Association of Royal Yachtsmen, where he fostered friendships and shared his passion for sailing and maritime tradition. Philip's dedication to his community and his professional life was matched by his vibrant personal interests. He read copiously, and never stopped until his last few days. He was fascinated by the arts, and even spent many years as an amateur actor in a variety of different community theatres. If you ever saw him in one of his plays, you couldn't forget it. We now ask for your forgiveness at this time.
The family will be holding a private service to celebrate Philip's life on August 1, 2024 at Marine Tavern, 49 Bronte Rd, Oakville, where we will gather to honor his memory and reflect on his remarkable life and, of course, raise a glass of Glenfiddich in his memory.
Philip will be remembered for his unwavering love for his family, his professional achievements, and his never-ending sense of humour, even through the toughest times. We love you Dad, and we all miss you!
