On Monday, July 5, 2021, Peter Warren, loving father of two boys, passed peacefully with his family by his side at the age of 90.
Peter was born on March 10, 1931 at the Salvation Army hospital in Hackney, a suburb in north-east London, and lived the first 29 years of his life in nearby Leyton. He grew up during the Great Depression and World War Two and survived the London blitz. After completing high school he obtained a job as a junior clerk with Lloyd's Bank, and worked there for 20 years (except for two years National Service in the Royal Air Airforce), then finally as a manager at the Bank's City Computer Centre in central London. In early 1967, Peter, with his wife and son, emigrated to Canada after
Peter had obtained a position with the Toronto-Dominion Bank. He worked there in various management positions in Head Office until his retirement in 1995, after which he worked for two years under contract with the Canadian Bankers Association.
Peter had a life long passion for movies and movie history, with a large collection of books and movies on VHS and DVD. Peter was also an avid writer, writing stage plays and musicals where he wrote the script and song lyrics. He wrote two musical comedies (Hamalot and Dreamland) for the TD Bank's drama Club, a pantomime (Little Red Riding Hood) for the Performing Arts Centre, and many musical comedies for the Jesters Children's Theatre Group, which was based in Scarborough. His one stage drama, Movie Games, was sold to a Toronto TV company where it was produced and presented as a Movie-of-the -Week titled 'Death In Hollywood'.
During Peter's 54 years in Oakville he has contributed to the cultural life of Oakville holding a number of volunteer positions with various local organizations. Including an early President of the Oakville Arts Council, a member of the Board of Oakville Centre for Performing Arts, a founding member of the Oakville Film Festival (now Monday Night At The Movies) and in the year 2000 was a founding member and first treasurer of the Combined Probus Club of North Oakville. He also was a member of the Burloak Theatre group for five years during the early days of the Drama Series. Peter's last years were spent playing table tennis and helping manage the group at the Iroquois Ridge Recreation Centre.
Peter is survived by his brother Norman, his two sons, Mark and Lloyd, their mother Gloria, and his grandson Scott. Since his devastating fall in November 2020, Peter showed heroic strength and patience to a give us the precious gift of love and time. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Oakville Hospital Foundation would be appreciated.
