Obituary

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Peter Alexander Curran on January 27 th at the age of 69.  He will be greatly missed by his wife Susan Curran (DeWolfe), siblings Thomas (Elaine), Jennifer (Colin), and Stephen (Carol), brother-in-law Brian (Fran), sister-in-law Margaret, uncle Geoffrey (Joan), and aunt Josephine, as well as many nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his parents Sheila and Alexander Curran.

A University of Waterloo math grad, Peter's career as a software developer was never dull as he was attracted to start-ups and intriguing leading-edge ideas.  While Peter enjoyed work, he seemed to be most fulfilled giving back to his community through his service to St. Stephen's on the Hill Church in Mississauga, and his work as the representative for St. Stephen's on the Hill on the United Church of Canada's Horseshoe Falls Regional Council.

Peter traveled the world with Sue, cruising here, there and everywhere, reaching five continents and experiencing countless adventures.  Geoff, Joan, Brian, Fran, and Margaret can attest to his skills as a Sequence player and fun cruise mate.

Family dinners with the Curran clan were often loud affairs with debates on various topics the norm.  Peter would sit quietly at the table sipping his wine and then, in the most profound way, offer his well thought-out view as though he'd been preparing for weeks.  His wry wit always shone through.  Susan and Peter created the most welcoming home, generously serving up great food and wine to family and friends alike.  We certainly all enjoyed Peter's well-stocked wine cellar.

Peter had a number of health issues that undoubtedly stemmed from the aggressive experimental cancer treatment he received in his twenties.  A treatment that, while severe, saved his life.  He didn't always have it easy when it came to his health but in his quiet, gentle way,  Peter always took it in stride.

Suffice it to say he is gone too soon.  All of us will miss you – our 'poor, dear Peter' or PDP as he liked to say.  We will be raising a glass to toast you.

The family will hold a private online gathering.  We will have a celebration of Peter when pandemic times permit.  Donations may be made, in his memory, to the Canadian Cancer Society or to St. Stephen's on the Hill Memorial Fund.
