IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Paul Gerard
Semple P.Eng
March 3, 1960 – April 15, 2015
Paul Semple passed away suddenly at the age of 55, at Oakville-Trafalgar Memorial Hospital from complications of kidney disease. Paul was devoted to his family and will be sadly missed by beloved daughter, Alison Clare Semple and her mother Cheryl Vhal. He is survived by siblings James (Fern), Robert (Ann), Margaret (Greg Dugdale), Esther (Tony Hayes), Joanne (Brian Hankinson), Barbara (Aubrey Kellawan), and brother-in-law Tod MacKellar, as well as 13 nieces and nephews; he was predeceased by sister Frances MacKellar (1989), and parents Campbell (2005) and Margaret Semple (2010). Paul will be remembered fondly by the Vhal family, the Semples, his co-workers, and his many friends.
Paul was a well-known and respected leader in the mining industry with over 30 years of experience. He was Vice-President and General Manager of Kilborn Engineering Pacific Ltd., and Vice-President at SNC-Lavalin until 2001. Since then, he co-founded Penguin Automated Systems and was Vice-President of Projects for Western Goldfields. Since 2009, Paul has held the position of Chief Operating Officer at Noront Resources where he dedicated his talents and energies to resource development in Northern Ontario including development of opportunities for its First Nations communities. He was an active member of the Canadian Institute of Mining and received the Past-President's Medal in 2005 in recognition of his teamwork and leadership.
Paul was born in Englehart, ON, and raised in New Liskeard. He graduated in 1983 from Queen's University with a B.Sc. in Mining Engineering. Paul lived life to the fullest. He took great pleasure in many things: his career, the Bracebridge cottage, golf, his dogs, his friends and family, but most of all, his daughter Alison. When kidney disease cast a dark shadow over Paul's life in 2008 and limited some of his activities, he maintained his priorities with great courage and a determination that was apparent to all who knew him. Above all, he was a loving and devoted father.
Funeral services will be on Saturday April 25 th at the Kopriva Taylor Community Funeral Home, 64 Lakeshore Rd W., Oakville, ON with visitation from 10:00 AM and Memorial Service at 11:00AM, followed by a reception at Glen Abbey Golf Course, ClubLink Room.
Paul's family is grateful for the excellent care of Dr. Daniel Sapir and the Oakville- Trafalgar Hospital Renal Clinic. In lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated to DAREarts, a charity providing educational enrichment for children and at-risk youth, an organization where Paul held the position of chair of the Board of Directors; or to the Kidney Foundation of Canada.
