IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Olga
Milovanovich
April 20, 1951 – January 5, 2024
With her daughter and husband by her side, Olga (Lola) passed away peacefully on Friday, January 5th at her home at the age of 72. Beloved mother to Katarina. Devoted wife to Bosko. Loved daughter of the late Veljko and Milica. Olga was predeceased by her stepfather Velimir, along with many uncles, aunts, cousins, and Kumovi in Bosnia, Serbia, Croatia, and Montenegro. Olga leaves behind her husband, daughter, cousins (Slavica, Mico, Darko, Milica, Jela, and Mico), sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews, dear friends, and her beloved godchildren.
Leaving her little blue house in Bosna, Lola came to Canada as a teenager with her mother to start a new life. At 15, she began working at a boot factory in Toronto. She was then able to put herself through school at George Brown College and began working her way up to becoming a bank officer at the Bank of Nova Scotia. When her daughter began kindergarten, Lola decided to leave the bank and stay at home so her daughter could come home to a hot lunch every day.
Lola and Bosko married at a young age, and welcomed their daughter Katarina a few years later. Being a mother was Lola's greatest pride and joy. She put her husband and daughter above all else. Lola created a home where love, laughter, family and friends, and good food (her palacinke were the best) were always welcome. She ensured the old Serbian traditions of her mother and grandmother were kept alive, and passed on to her daughter.
As an only child, Lola valued family so very much. She most enjoyed spending time with her husband and daughter. Even until her last and most difficult days, she always made sure to keep in contact with her relatives in Bosnia, Serbia and Croatia. The passing of beloved cousins here and abroad affected her deeply. She missed her parents, grandmother, uncles, aunts, and cousins to the very end.
Kuma Lola had a very special place in her heart for her godchildren, whom she loved very much. She loved being Teta Lola to many kids. Her kindness, generosity, and love for children was one of her greatest attributes. Being a tetka, ujna, and strina to many nieces and nephews also filled her heart.
Although she suffered many years with chronic illnesses that became worse as the years went on, she always maintained her positive spirit. In the last few years, it is the birds, ducks, and rabbits that visited her window and garden that brought her great joy. Her love of animals is only matched by her love of children.
Lola's strength, humour, compassion, and love is the legacy she has left behind. Her daughter and husband are heartbroken at her passing. The only consolation is that her spirit is free from suffering and that she has been reunited with those departed souls whom she loved dearly.
