Obituary

Beloved wife of the late Norman McGirr. Cherished mother of Paula (Colin Tobias); Mark (Patti Murphy); Sven (Marie Temming); Sonja (Simon Garrett); and Sandra (Sandy Hart). Precious grandmother of Grace; Meagan and Matilda; Shawn, Nina and Naomi; Cassidy and Remy; and Rob, Katie, Niall and Tarn. Great-grandmother of Kohei. Predeceased by three siblings and survived by one sister, Eleanor Johnson. Kay was a founding member of Trinity United Church, Oakville, former President of the Oakville Big Sisters Association and a long standing supporter of the Roofs for the Roofless project in India. In 1987, Kay was awarded a Certificate of Excellence from the Town of Oakville, in recognition of her dedication to charitable work with families in need in Oakville. Mom loved skiing, painting, playing bridge, gardening, travelling and most of all, helping those less fortunate than herself. She lived most of her adult life in Ontario but never stopped being "from down home" in Saint John, New Brunswick. Mom died as she lived, with strength, courage, dignity and good humour, enveloped in the loving embrace of her five children. We will miss her beyond measure. The family would like to thank the staff at Silverthorn Care Community for their exceptional care of Kay for the last six years and also gratefully acknowledge the nursing staff at Credit Valley Hospital for their kind support to Mom and the family during this difficult time. Visitation will be held at the Kopriva Taylor Community Funeral Home, 64 Lakeshore Road West (one block east of Kerr 905-844-2600) Oakville from 2-4 and 7-9 pm on Tuesday, November 22, 2016. A memorial funeral service will be held at 2 pm on Wednesday, November 23, 2016 at Trinity United Church, 1250 McCraney Street East, Oakville. A wake will be held at O'Finns Irish Temper, 136 Church Street, Oakville on Wednesday, November 23, 2016 at 7:00 pm. If you wish to commemorate Kay, the family requests donations to "Roofs for the Roofless" c/o Trinity United Church, or to DESEA Peru Organization, www.deseaperu.org.
