Obituary

Norman grew up on a farm in Oxford County, Ontario where he also began his fulfilling teaching career before moving on to work in Oakville, Waterdown, and Ancaster.

Norman is predeceased by, Marilyn, his loving wife of 56 years.  As her health declined, Norman became her Primary Caregiver, and this became a fulltime effort of devotion during the pandemic.  Norman is survived by his son Tobin (Pamela) and sister Carolyn Allin (Bud).

Norman was active until his last weekend picnicking with his friends.  He enjoyed being outside gardening, hiking, paddling, and cross-country skiing.  He was a curious traveler who enjoyed trips to remote destinations and diving deeply into the lives of the residents there.  He also had many indoor pursuits: reading, folk art painting, creating stained glass panels, going to musical theatre.  He shared his passions by volunteering with various organizations including the Bruce Trail, Seniors for Nature Outdoor Club, UTM Medical School at Trillium Health Partners, and the Oakville Historical Society's Thomas House Museum.

Norman maintained a positive attitude throughout his recent medical issues, never slowing down or changing his outlook on life.  The family would like to thank the medical staff at the Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital who lovingly cared for Norman during his final days.

We will celebrate Norman's life starting at 11am on Saturday, 7th September at the Kopriva Taylor Community Funeral Home in Oakville.  A brief visitation period will be followed by words of tribute to a life well-lived at 11:30. Afterwards we will have a luncheon reception to chat and catch-up. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Bruce Trail Conservancy or the Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital Foundation – Palliative Care Unit would be welcomed.
