Norma, 80, of Oakville, Ontario passed away suddenly on the night of Tuesday, October 13th, 2015 due to complications arising from pneumonia. Norma was born in Elkhorn, Manitoba to Bob and Jessie MacDonald. She was the eldest of five children and attended Crystal City High School. She then enrolled at the University of Manitoba and received her Bachelor Of Sciences in 1956. She then obtained a Masters in Social Work in 1959 from McGill University. She had a successful career highlighted by a thirteen year stretch as Executive Director of the Oakville Community Youth Programs. For the past 20 years (up to the day before she died) she worked as a travel agent for Cruise Ship Centers in Burlington. In 1967 Norma married Dr. John Thomas Shepherd and together they raised four children primarily in Oakville. Norma is preceded in death by her parents, Bob and Jesse, and by her brothers Wayne and Eldon MacDonald and by her beloved husband John. She is survived by her sister, Donna Dixon, and brother, Jim MacDonald, and first husband Harold Zuckerman and by her four children: Robert, Jane, Blair and Kathryn Shepherd (Tony Horn) and by her two granddaughters: Jacqueline Shepherd Guttman and Lucy Horn. Norma loved to travel the globe with her late husband, siblings and good friends. She was an avid reader and loved her book clubs. She also loved the theater and a good game of bridge. Known to offer her opinion willingly (and often), she loved to debate and partake in heated conversations about the issues of the day. She was generous and giving with her family and friends but also with her co-workers and the people she helped throughout her social work career. In her later years Norma found particular joy in sharing time with her two much-loved granddaughters, Jacqueline and Lucy. "Stormin" Norma will be sadly missed and never forgotten. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, October 22nd at 4 pm at the Kopriva Taylor Community Funeral Home located at 64 Lakeshore Road West, Oakville, Ontario. In lieu of flowers the family would welcome donations in Norma's name to the United Way, Salvation Army or Oakville Community Youth Programs located at 443 Allan St, Oakville, Ont L6J 3R1.
