Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved family matriarch, Noella Rutley (née Hamel). Born on Christmas Day 1918, she lived a remarkable 104 years and 28 days, and left us peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer.

Noella was born and grew up in Magog, Quebec, eventually settling in Cornwall, Ontario for most of her life. She was predeceased by her parents (Napoleon Hamel and Marie Anne Gignac), her eight siblings. Alexandre, Lorenzo, Simonne, Berthe, Lucille, Dominique, Marcel and Huguette, her first husband James Dorey (1946), her second husband Malford Keith (Jeff) Rutley (1985) and her beloved children Judy (Hector Campbell) and Gary (Joan) (2011).

Noella used to laugh and say she had a huge clan and she certainly did, stretching 3/4 of the way around the world, from England to Australia.
Noella dearly loved and was extremely proud of her family. She will be greatly missed by her children, Robert Dorey (Jeanne),
Marcel Dorey (Ruth), Douglas Rutley (Judi), Daniel Rutley (Mary), and her 13 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, 2 step children and 3 grand step children whom she adored.

A 35-year member of the CWL and award-winning seamstress, Noella loved to pursue creative endeavors and travel, a passion
she shared with Jeff. They cruised numerous times over the years, and adored boating with friends and family. She often reminisced about those days and all the happy memories she had at the "Boathouse".

Noella was incredibly strong and resilient. Quite simply, she was a survivor. Even through her toughest days of pain, Noella would focus her attention and conversation on others, never wanting anyone to worry. Even in her final months, she remained ever- sharp, always witty and warm, extending her hand in connection and always reminding her visitors of her love.

Our family would like to extend our deepest gratitude to the staff at Queen's Retirement Residence in Oakville for the love and care that they have provided Noella since she moved there in 2006. She also received exemplary compassion from the palliative care team at Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital, where she spent her final days.

Memorial Mass will be held on Thursday March 23, 2023 at Mary Mother Of God Roman Catholic Church, 2745 North Ridge Trail, Oakville at 11 am.
