Obituary

With sadness we share the peaceful passing of Moyra Angerstein (nee Genest) at Southbridge London on October 30, 2023 at 87 years old. Predeceased by her loving husband, Gunter. She will be greatly missed by her son Kevin and his wife Fariya as well as by her daughter Patricia and her husband Michael. Grandmama will be missed by her three loving grandchildren Ghalia, Emily, and Colin. Moyra is predeceased by her sister Julie, mother Agnes and father Monty.

Moyra was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She had fond memories of her home on Monk Avenue, her summer vacations at Victoria Beach, and her many friends there. Her father's job frequently moved her family, and friendships blossomed in Fort William, St. John, and Montreal. At 16 Moyra entered the Sisters of St. Joseph Convent in North Bay, where she remained until deciding to transfer to a convent with a different focus and she left North Bay. After returning home she realized that her mother was ill with dementia, and the decision was made that Moyra would remain at home to care for her. Although her faith was always important to her, she never returned to religious life. Moyra completed Business College and began working for Air Canada. Her knack for business eventually saw her through positions at CIL, and Merck Frosst.

In 1962 at a YMCA Halloween dance she met the love of her life, Gunter. Marrying a year later, they continued dancing until his death in 2022. Their son Kevin was born in 1966 and daughter Patricia followed in 1969. The family moved to Ontario in 1977, living in Tillsonburg, Mississauga and then Oakville where Moyra and Gunter continued to build their life together. Moyra changed career tracks and began working as a PSW for several years until various health issues forced her to claim permanent disability. Moyra was a true caregiver, and her concern for others shone through. Even as she struggled with her own health, she always made time to acknowledge and care for others both by volunteering in her church or by saying hello to  passersby that seemed in need of a cheerful "Hi, I'm Moyra, how are you?"

Her family is grateful for the wonderful care given to Moyra at Southbridge London Long Term Care and previously during her nine-week stay at University Hospital (London). A very big thank you to the nursing staff at both for their kindness and support.

Moyra's funeral will be held at 11am on Friday, November 3, 2023 at St. Christopher's Parish in Clarkson, with reception to follow and the interment at 2:30pm at Holy Family Cemetery in Milton.
