Brown: Mona
On Thursday, January 11, 2018 following a brief illness, Mona passed away at Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. Mona was the beloved wife and best friend of Jack for almost 65 years, and the dearly loved mother of Patricia (Alex Simard), June (Henry Benzoni) and Kathleen (widow of Hendrik Makenbach), grandmother to Danielle (Rob Griffin), Sarah (Karl Giersch), and Scott and Brian Benzoni. Not forgotten by nieces and nephews in Canada and the United States, and family in the Isle of Man – the native country of her parents.
Mona was born in Montreal to Leonard and Florence McGain (nee McKnight). She was predeceased by her parents and by her siblings Ashley, Pauline and Nonie. Mona was a gentle lady who never criticized those who differed with her. She was a member of the United Church Women and was appointed a Life Member. She served her groups well in Hampstead and Mount Royal in Montreal, Agincourt and Kingsway in Toronto and St. John's and Saint Paul's in Oakville. Mona was a keen curler and swept the ice in both Mount Royal and the Boulevard Club as attested to by the honours she gathered. The walls of all her homes are witness to her talent as an artist in both paint and wool.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held at the Kopriva Taylor Community Funeral Home, 64 Lakeshore Road West (one block east of Kerr 905-844-2600) Oakville from 7 - 9 p.m. on Tuesday January 16. The funeral will be held on Wednesday, January 17, 2018 at 11 am at Saint Paul's United Church, 454 Rebecca Street, Oakville. In lieu of flowers, a contribution to Crohn's and Colitis Canada, or your favourite charity would be appreciated.
