Obituary
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing away of Moira Coffey, on Saturday, January 10, 2026. Beloved mother of Shannon, Janet (Tom), Sr. Mary Isidore SOLI, and Peter (Lourdes). Predeceased by her dear husband, Kinnear; parents, Arthur and Winnie; and parents-in-law, Morris and Elvira. Beloved sister of Trish (Bruce), and Sheila (Bob, deceased); beloved Aunt to Rory (deceased) and Bronwyn (Ronald, Delwen, Amy and Taryn); beloved Auntie-Mommy to Kirsten (Shane) and Padget (Pete); beloved Auntie-Gogo to Luke, Jasper, Clara and Cameron; cherished cousin to many. She was also a friend and spiritual mother to more people than we can count.
Moira grew up on a farm in Zululand, South Africa, where she spoke isiZulu before English. She dreamt in Zulu throughout her life and always loved her green hills and the sound of the wind through the trees. She was always a farm girl at heart but left for the city when she married the love of her life, Kinnear Coffey.
After twenty joy-filled years of marriage, her beloved Kinnear died suddenly. Moira raised their young children with great faith and courage in her adopted home of Canada. She bore many trials with loving trust in God, Who looks after the widow and orphan.
Like Our Lady, whom she strove to imitate, Moira never drew attention to herself; she humbly and quietly helped behind the scenes with love, through her prayers and acts of service. Moira had a great capacity for friendship, which grew from her profound love of Christ. That love for Jesus and His Blessed Mother shone out of her, and everyone could feel that love. She was very outgoing and enjoyed getting to know people, taking genuine interest in each person's story. Moira could make friends with anyone! God gave her a gift of making people feel welcomed, seen, and loved. Her adventurous nature, quick wit, and cheeky sense of humour endeared her to many.
Moira was a wonderful example of cheerful patience in suffering, especially during her last illness. Her constant prayer was that of peaceful surrender to Jesus.
We are privileged to have had her for our mother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend, and thank God for the gift of her love and example.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Canadian Food for Children, Saint Dominic Parish, Oakville, or the Sisters of Our Lady Immaculate (solisisters.ca) would be appreciated by the family.
