Mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, wife, artist, world-traveller, prize-winning cook, and storyteller.
Minna passed away peacefully at Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital on June 6, 2025 in her 96th year. In her last few months, she often reflected on the long, happy and fulfilling life she lived. A resident of Oakville, Minna lived almost her entire life in the house on Second Street that she loved and that she shared with first her grandparents and mother, who moved there in 1921, and then with her husband and children.
Minna grew up in an artistic family and became an accomplished watercolourist herself. When she was very young, Minna traveled several times to Bermuda and England. After she met her husband, Ralph, she continued to travel with him and close friends to the Caribbean, Europe, Mexico, the United States, Australia and New Zealand, painting, sightseeing, learning new languages and establishing lifelong friendships. At home she cared for her family, enjoyed socializing with their many friends, loved events at the Oakville Club like highland dancing and Cabaret and took pleasure in gardening, cooking and baking (including her award-winning rhubarb pie), knitting, painting, playing cards and board games, and regaling everyone she met with stories of her youth, her family, the people she met, and her accomplished mother and grandparents.
Predeceased by her parents, Harold Perinchief (d. 1929) and Violet Keene (d. 1987) and her husband of 61 years, Ralph (d. 2013). Survived by her sons, Tom (Karen) and Peter (Lisa), by her cherished grandchildren Caleb (Megan), Jacob (Vivian), Gareth (Roisin), Brian (Anastasia) and Emily, and by her wonderful great-grandchildren Caleb, Luke, Sadie and Theodore.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital, The Kensington Retirement Residence, and Dr. Omar Zayid for their kind and compassionate care. The family also wishes to thank her many friends, neighbours and fellow-residents who kept their eye on Minna and brought her great comfort and happiness.
Minna lived a life filled with adventure, surrounded by friends and art. She excelled at keeping in touch, whether by phone or by the copious cards and letters she wrote. She had a wonderful sense of humour and an amazing memory for detail. More than anything, she adored her family. We will miss her dearly.
There will be a celebration of Minna's life at the Oakville Club, 56 Water Street, Oakville, Ontario on Wednesday, June 25 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm, with a sharing of stories at 5:30 pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital or the Oakville Art Society would be greatly appreciated.
